Vista drivers worse than xp? | Vista Treiber sind schlechter als XP?

Englisch/English:
I am planning to install vista in a dual boot with a linux and ya everybody says vista is bad, but I can emulate up some games on linux or play them on linux more of, but like dunno some games would be better on windows, so I was wondering if vista driver is worse only by 5-10 percent or by more or far more than the windows xp driver. Because I heard nvidia vista driver is not much worse, by prolly 5 percent in some cases than windows xp. I heard from somebody that some fixes make vista better etc.
So I think I might try a windows vista business edition. Anyway I hope the linux driver is on the ati site by tomorrow morning cause this is beginning to be boring, this wait. I say this boredom in the name of other ati owners too. The windows driver has been there for days now.

P.S: I hope all here understand Englisch and German well, so I do not have to repost in mother language.
Ich hoffe das alle hier Englisch oder deutsch gut verstehen, so ich dieser Text nicht auf einer anderen Sprache einschreiben muss.

The new AMD fglrx Linux drivers will be avaible early (and I mean very early) next week. This is later than you've expected, but it's worth the wait.

The Windows Vista driver are very good nowadays, there were a lot of improvements over the last months. However, the 64Bti Vista drivers are not as optimized as the 32Bit Vista drivers, yet. Just install all updates from Windows Update and you've got the performance updates that you've heard of (there are three big updates that will improve the performance).

Thanks for the info

Hmmz, ya I thought it would be availabe this week but if not I will check next Monday next time. I hope it is really worth the wait and will not have the bugs of the 8.41 release, I mean with display settings in games and so on. I discovered 2 main bugs but cannot really explain the other one, it was like firefox left a mark on my monitor for example sometimes. Ya and my fps was not better but it said it was for hd cards. Thanks for vista info, I think I will install vista business edition. Is there any chance of freebsd 3d drivers in the future cause I might install freebsd, but not sure. I will install it more of on an nvidia pc. I mean if the ati driver reach es the nvidia level I will be happy already somewhat. Because nvidia, ati, matrox, intel, via all have 3d but prolly nvidia and ati are reaching the highest rank nowadays, but ati was pretty low a semester ago let us admit that, it has evolved a lot and intel is acceptable as I heard, but have heard of some problems with via and sis just puts it's head in a pit approx and does not take any notice of everybody else making the linux drivers, does not do any steps to get into the fight. :)
Elysium you are the only one who even answers my posts, this is weird, ok they are long but understandable. Ok maybe the forum does not have enough members yet. Btw I won't be too happy if the drivers aren't their on Monday when I check next.

Application crashes / Game crashes and problems that you have been experiencing with 8.41 should be fixed. However, the corruption near the mouse cursor that you have seen in Firefox is still present at some times. fglrx will not support BSD in the near future, but you should have a look at the open source RadeonHD driver and how it's developing during the next months. The driver should be avaible by monday, but because of the time zone differences I can't say if it's sunday or tuesday for you. There also is the possibility of last-minute critical bugs that could delay the driver (as always).

Thank you for the information

Ya well ok, it will probably be Monday cause I am not from Central Europe, man Germany is not that far from Hungary, especially some parts. I think by car it would be 12-24 hours or dunno. I mean we are next to Austria, from Sopron you can cross over to Austria. So I would bet on Monday really in the Morning or Sunday evening. I mean it will be prolly Tuesday for Asians or Russians or dunno really, but for them Monday night more of and for us Monday morning, I mean I am in the same Timezone as you are. It is 15:34 here now approx. Hungary is Ungarn btw, but I am sure you know that. I mean I can go to Germany by bus, by car, by train, by plain, many things. Ya that firefox thing is pretty nasty if it occures I have to reboot to get rid of it. Does it occure with any other browsers or is this specifically with firefox or just some versions of firefox, cause I can update it use and older version, use opera or something else if this is a firefox specific bug. I think Monday btw, cause the delays are calculated in then even, dunno but most of the drivers were released on a weekday or don't know, do not remember weekend release somehow, so I would bet tomorrow or Monday, but more of Monday, but ya can be Saturday, but don't think Sunday. I will keep looking 2 times daily, once in the morning and once at night anyway then. Btw I think the firefox bug is pretty critical, I mean I have to reboot to get rid of it for example. So I hoped it would be fixed, but if not, than not. Maybe in the next release, but I expect 25-50 percent fps increase on older cards this time, I mean 25 percent in new games maybe, but some fixes for older games even. Hope it won't be a disappointment, becuase if these drivers are not I might consider buying another ati sometime. I only have a 9600 xt in a 32 bit pc that I game on sometimes, but have newer, ok not a good one but and nvidia 7300 LE. If ati really fixes up the drivers it will not matter that much if somebody buys nvidia or ati. I mean who likes this buys this who thinks the other is better buys that.

When you get a motherboard with integrated gpu, than nvidia or ati are the best, than intel and via maybe, though never saw via and sis is the worst as I found out and I have sis m760gx in my laptop max 128 mb shared memory. Dunno any other choices in external gpu, than ati or nvidia or matrox really, but the 1st 2 are the most common. Have not seen a sis external or an an intel or a via external really.

Some peeps wanted to make ati work on bsd I was only asking about bsd really, ok I can install bsd with nvidia card, so this news does not make me angry.

Nobody is asking about Solaris drivers :P , dunno who uses that operating system, I mean nvidia is the only company that has released 3d drivers for that Os.

It's not a firefox problem but a fglrx problem. It just seem to happen often in firefox.

You have the same timezone as me, so it will be out at monday around ~18.00-20.00 for you. It could end up earlier but I don't think so. The driver itself is ready since yesterday but AMD is doing further testing.

Ati seeking

It seems like an ok date, so I will not look before, I mean if I start looking and it is not there it just makes me a bit angry. I mean I have changed my mind and will only look at 18:00 Cet and 20:00 Cet on Monday. Btw some manufacturers have released some open source drivers for linux but only the 2d part and they kept the 3d code to themselves, I do not know what ati is planning to do, make the whole driver open source, or just dump a 2d source to the community and let them figure out the 3d. I think but is only big maybe that intel is the only one who released 3d source too to the public, but I do not know this really, or nobody has released such open source drivers that contained the 3d, so some peeps could continue on developing like the control center or control panel in drivers. I don't know but the drivers could go smoother if some community could connect into the development. But don't really know who would work on the drivers for free to help ati. I mean nobody wants to spend his/her time working for free. I mean some people could make something for the driver in the outside world and just sell these developments to ati, cause nobody is going to give away his more months long development for free. Btw many says the ati is the good thing in the xbox 360 console, but the console itself is awful cause of the hw issues it has, like disc scratching and overheating. Ok they have made the cpu smaller in the falcon edition, it is called that as I know but that only cures the overheating and what did they do vs disc scratching or is that fixed too. Have not really heard such grand issues with the ps3, I mean that is fixed by the "firmware" updated, I mean software updates. Ati has a problem losing backwards compatibility I mean nvidia has older cards still inside it's new driver list I think, but I might be wrong than ati. Ati drops cards earlier, I mean mine is endangered too, I have a 9600 xt. 9500 Xt is the lowest supported, so I will be out of the circle next year for sure, so dunno my articles my stop dripping in the forum, when my card is taken off the list. I mean this card is great it cost me a bunch of money last year or 1.5-2 years before, it was one of the mid-upper category, like now I could get hd for the price of 9600 xt, when I bought it.

I mean this card is the best of the 9600 series, I mean XT is even better than pro, so it should be worth a 9700 pro at least approx or a 9800 LE. I think with ati fixed drivers it should run et quake wars linux demo 1024*768 or 1280*1024 normal perfectly. I mean under linux even an integrated 6100 could run 1024*768 normal with smaller lag, so external 9600 Xt 128 mb ram should easily take it.

I mean I could run doom 3 ok under linux even with a geforce 3 ti 200, the version that was weaker than the original ok on 1280*1024 ok med or low, but still, so it should be ok et qw linux demo with the new ati drivers.
:)
